Hi! I’m Kris Garner, Emotional Literacy Educator & Founder of the Emotional Literacy Movement.
With over two decades of experience in education, my journey into emotional literacy began from a very personal place. I faced burnout after nearly a decade of working within the public education system, and it pushed me to reevaluate how we approach learning, growth, and wellbeing.
Since then, my path has been one of learning, unlearning, healing, and growing. Living with chronic pain taught me that addressing underlying emotions is not just helpful, it is essential. I am still on the road to recovery, and I have learned that wholeness is not about perfection. It is about compassion, patience, and deep acceptance of where you are.
I hold a Bachelor of Education (Middle Years), a Bachelor of Arts in English, and certifications in Responsive Classroom Training, trauma-informed systems, yoga instruction, and therapeutic arts practices. My work is also grounded in a deep understanding of polyvagal theory, attachment theory, self-compassion, nervous system regulation, and other areas of psychology.
In 2021, I founded the Emotional Literacy Movement to address a gap I saw in our social systems, especially in education: the urgent need to center emotional regulation as a foundation for learning, problem-solving, and relationship-building.
Since then, I have developed workshops and programs that have been delivered in schools, non-profits, and community spaces. I also work regularly in addictions recovery and in the field of learning and development in the corporate sector, helping individuals and teams build greater emotional resilience, connection, and self-awareness.
My approach is anchored in what I call the Four Pillars of Emotional Literacy: Emotional Anatomy, Emotional Regulation, Emotional Awareness, and Emotional Expression. Much of my work focuses on what it truly means to be resilient — not pushing through at all costs, but learning to listen, adapt, heal, and grow through life's challenges with compassion and strength.
I do not believe in a one-size-fits-all path to healing. I believe in walking alongside you as you reconnect with yourself, foster resilience, and discover the joy that comes from deepening your emotional intelligence, one step, one breath, and one moment at a time.
